How To Care For Lashes After Extensions
We’ve all been there, excited to welcome a new client and ready to create a stunning lash set only to discover damaged or weakened lashes once they lie down. As a fellow lash lover, I understand how challenging it can be to hear, “You need to take a lash break.” But those conversations are crucial for your clients' well-being!
My Journey With Honest Conversations: Lash Care After Extensions Removal
As a beginner, I often struggled with how to tell clients that I couldn’t achieve the look they wanted or that it was time for a break. Over time, I learned that clients appreciate honesty and genuinely value the care you show them.
When I recognize that I can’t provide the lashes a client desires, I always take a picture of their natural lashes to show them. Many clients are unaware of the extent of the damage and are often surprised by what they see.
Two Options For Addressing Fragile Lashes
Here are two approaches I recommend:
Option 1: The Lash Break: After Lash Extension Care
I recommend a lash break, even though I know it’s not what the client wants to hear. I make sure they feel valued by providing a lash serum and scheduling a follow-up appointment in about eight weeks. This approach shows my genuine concern for their lash health and my commitment to supporting them through the process.
An example of what I would say to a client when they need to take a lash break is:
“While I understand this might not be the ideal solution you were hoping for, I recommend taking a lash break to allow your lashes to recover. I’d like to provide you with a lash serum that will help your lashes grow healthier and stronger. I will schedule a follow-up appointment in about eight weeks to look at your growth and hopefully we can do your full set then!”
Option 2: Customized Lash Set
For clients who feel they cannot live without lash extensions, I offer a customized lash set that focuses solely on their healthy lashes. While they may not achieve their desired look, this choice prioritizes the integrity of their lashes. I also always recommend a lash serum that is safe for use with extensions.
An example of what I would say to a client when I can’t provide the lash set they want is:
“After looking at your natural lashes, I noticed some damage. I know how important your lash extensions are to you, so what I can do is make a customized set for you. I will only be applying lash extensions to your healthy lashes. I will also provide you a lash serum that’s safe for lash extensions to help promote growth. The serum will help your natural lashes grow and we should be able to give you your desired look within a few weeks! “
