How Long Does Lash Adhesive Last?
A freshly manufactured, unopened bottle of adhesive can last about 6 months. Once opened, a bottle of adhesive has a shelf life of about 4-6 weeks. If you notice your adhesive becoming stringy and thick, that’s a good sign that you probably need a new bottle. Or maybe your bottle is clogged with dried adhesive and just won’t open (check out the PLA Adhesive Nozzle Remover if you’re really stuck)! Just make sure to keep an eye out for any changes in your adhesive. We’ll get more into that below.
How Should Lash Adhesive Be Stored?
Remember that short shelf life? That’s only true if your adhesive is stored properly, and can decrease if the adhesive starts to break down. The best way to store your opened adhesive bottles is in a cool, dark area with no direct sunlight. The PLA Airtight Adhesive Holder is an easy way to protect your bottles from humidity and UV rays, or you can use another small container or cupboard. Remember to let the adhesive naturally come to room temperature before use. So don’t use a heater to warm it up!
Can Eyelash Adhesive Go Bad (And How Can I Tell)?
To make a long story short: YES. Environmental factors like humidity, temperature, and UV light can all play a role in breaking down your adhesive. If you notice any changes to the consistency, appearance, or smell, just play it safe and grab a new bottle. You don’t want to take any chances of using expired adhesive on a client, as explained below.
Reasons to NOT Use Expired Adhesive
It’s important to stay up to date on your adhesive bottles. Expired adhesive just won’t work as well as fresh adhesive, so the lash extensions you just spent hours on will fall out too quickly. Your clients will have to come back for a fill sooner than expected, meaning they have to spend more money on their extensions and you have to spend more time working on them. Even worse, using expired adhesive (or really any cosmetic products) can increase the risk of your client having a reaction to the ingredients. Obviously, we all want to minimize any sort of potential risk factors while lashing, so this is an easy way to remove one.
We are excited to announce our two new PLA Adhesives - Matrix and Flex! Both of these adhesive bottles will stay good and usable for three months once opened. Again, that three months! Compared to other adhesives that break down after 4 weeks, Matrix and Flex are great options if you need to store your adhesive bottles a little longer than usual. And if you don’t need to open them for a while, both will remain fresh for up to 2 years if stored properly.
