Holiday Marketing Tips For Your Beauty Business
As a kid the holidays are what I looked forward to most… but as an adult and first time business owner that quickly changed. It wasn’t just the surge of clients; it was juggling everything else. My business, personal life, family events, even shopping and wrapping gifts in secret left me in a constant state of panic. It wasn’t until a couple of years into running my business that I realized it wasn’t the holidays themselves causing the chaos, it was my lack of preparation.
But hey, here's the good news, with a little intentional planning and simple strategy, you don’t have to dread the holiday season. Instead, you can manage your time and serve your clients all while enjoying the festivities. Let me share a few tips to help you prepare your holiday marketing plan this year.
Holiday Marketing Tips: Map Out The Important Dates
The first step to a smooth holiday season starts with a plan for success. Block an hour off as soon as possible to map out the major holidays on your physical or digital calendar, along with any personal commitments you want to prioritize, like family traditions and vacations. All of it. Blocking off the time in advance sounds simple, and it really is! This is a quick and easy step that will save you hours of headache later by preventing last minute schedule changes due to oversight on your end.
Set firm boundaries for your personal days like holiday weekends and any downtime you would like to schedule for yourself. This will keep you from overcommitting and help you stay motivated through the season. Your clients will appreciate knowing your schedule in advance and in the event you are willing to work outside normal business hours, this is a great opportunity to add a surcharge for those types of accommodations.
By taking the time to plan ahead, you’ll reserve your energy for serving your clients instead of spending unnecessary time “fixing” your schedule and shuffling clients around.
Lash Business Tips: Review Last Year’s Numbers
Next, check out your bookkeeping software or scheduling app to analyze your business trends during previous years. Take some time to look back at the following key metrics: revenue, appointments booked, cancellations, new clients, and clients that didn’t rebook. This data is a goldmine for figuring out what worked and what didn’t.
Once you have those numbers, ask yourself a few probing questions: What patterns do you notice? Were there certain weeks that were slower or busier than expected? Did any promotions or strategies work particularly well? By reviewing these insights, you’ll be able to make informed decisions about how to approach this coming year. Maybe you want to push a referral program to boost new clients or plan for more flexible scheduling to minimize cancellations.
It’s also a great time to check in on your revenue goals. Based on last year’s numbers, is it time to increase your income with strategic holiday promotions? Offering special discounts or limited-time packages can be a great way to bring in extra business. Just make sure you base those decisions on real data, not guessing or simply because “everyone else is doing it”.
By analyzing your projected numbers, you’ll be better equipped to plan and adjust your approach for the season ahead.
Plan Sales And Marketing Efforts
Now, it’s time to put all these holiday business tips together and plan your promotions and/or advertisement strategies. Look at what worked last year. Were there certain promotions that brought in more clients or specific times when business slowed down? Use the answers to those questions to customize your approach for this year.
If a particular sale or discount had obvious positive results, consider running a similar offer, but maybe tweak it based on what you’ve learned. For example, if a “value add-on” deal for full sets did well, you could try bundling it with retail products or aftercare kits to increase revenue. This could look like “Book a full set and receive a FREE brow wax AND $20 retail credit”. If you noticed certain weeks were slower last year, plan targeted social media posts or email campaigns to boost bookings during those times. I used to even take the time to reach out to the clients that didn’t stay consistent during those times to ask for feedback on what I could do to entice them to book. This helped me when my creative juices just weren’t flowing.
Be sure to get started on planning all of this ASAP. Once you’ve decided on sales and discounts, map out when and where you’ll promote them. Whether it’s Instagram posts, email newsletters or in-studio flyers, having a clear plan will ensure you’re not fumbling when surprise events pop up and you run out of time to create your graphics/print materials.
